Week 3: Sunday Evening Prayer II

Psalmody

Psalm 110 (1-5, 7)

Ant. One must never recoil from work, never be intimidated. The good God is there to inspire us. (1852 letter to Fr. J. F. Arnoux)

The LORD’s revelation to my lord:
“Sit at my right hand,
until I make your foes your footstool.”

The LORD will send from Zion
your sceptre of power:
rule in the midst of your foes.

With you is princely rule
on the day of your power.
In holy splendour, from the womb before the dawn,
I have begotten you.

The LORD has sworn an oath he will not change:
“You are a priest forever,
according to the order of Melchizedek.”

The Lord at your right hand
shatters rulers on the day of God’s wrath.

He shall drink from the stream by the wayside,
and therefore he shall lift up his head.

Glory to the Father…

Ant. One must never recoil from work, never be intimidated. The good God is there to inspire us.

Psalm 111

Ant. Rejoice over these happy beginnings. Thank God for success in your work and care. (1841 letter to Fr. Vincens)

I will thank the LORD with all my heart,
in the meeting of the just and the assembly.
Great are the works of the LORD,
to be pondered by all who delight in them.

Majestic and glorious your work;
your righteousness stands firm forever.
You have made a memorial of your wonders.
You, O LORD, are gracious and merciful.

You give food to those who revere you;
you are mindful of your covenant forever.
You have shown mighty works to your people
by giving them the heritage of nations.

Your handiwork is justice and truth,
your precepts are all of them sure,
standing firm forever and ever,
wrought in uprightness and truth.

You have sent redemption to your people,
and established your covenant forever.
Holy your name, to be feared.

Fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom;
understanding marks all who live by it.
Your praise endures forever!

Glory to the Father…

Ant. Rejoice over these happy beginnings. Thank God for success in your work and care.

Canticle (Rev 19: 1-7)

Ant. The sun is beginning to go down and I still have many things to do. Let us ask God for patience and surrender. (1854 letter to Fr. Mouchette)

Salvation, glory and power belong to you,
your judgements are honest and true.

All of us, your servants, sing praise to you,
we worship you reverently, both great and small.

You, our almighty God, are Creator of heaven and earth.
Let us rejoice and exult, and give you glory.

The wedding feast of the Lamb has begun,
And the bride has made herself ready.

Glory to the Father…

Ant. The sun is beginning to go down and I still have many things to do. Let us ask God for patience and surrender.

Reading

The Call of Jesus Christ has gathered us together in the Church to share our faith, life, mission and culture. This relationship is deepened through our personal and community prayer and through the reflection on and evaluation of our way of living. This opens us to the invitation and gift of the Holy Spirit.

(Conversion 2010 General chapter, p. 21)

Responsory

We will let our lives be enriched by the poor and the marginalized as we work with them

-We will let our lives be enriched by the poor and the marginalized as we work with them

for they can make us hear in new ways the Gospel we proclaim

-the poor and the marginalized

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit

-We will let our lives be enriched by the poor and the marginalized as we work with them

Canticle of Mary

Ant. We will hear and make heard the clamour of the voiceless, which is a cry to God who brings down the mighty from their thrones and exalts the lowly. (Constitution 9)

My heart is radiant, overflowing with joy,
for you have loved my lowliness.
You have shown me great favour;
all people will call me blest.

Your mercy extends throughout the ages
toward those who revere your holy name.
You have revealed your strength,
scattering the proud of heart.

You dethrone the powerful
and lift up the lowly.
The famished are filled;
the rich sent empty away.

Your people Israel you have remembered,
true to your loving kindness,
just as you have promised long ago
to Sarah and Abraham.

Glory to the Father…

Ant. We will hear and make heard the clamour of the voiceless, which is a cry to God who brings down the mighty from their thrones and exalts the lowly.

Intercessions

Through Christ, the herald of reconciliation, the victor of the cross, free us from empty fear and hopelessness.

May all those who love and pursue justice, work together without deceit to build a world of true peace.

Be with the oppressed, free the captives, console the sorrowing, feed the hungry, strengthen the weak; in all people reveal the victory of your cross.

Lord’s Prayer

Concluding Prayer

Merciful God, you both comfort us and disturb our complacency through your Spirit. May we recognize the blind, the lame and the prisoner in the circumstances of our lives, and understand our call to proclaim the good news to the poor. We ask this through Jesus Christ, our companion and our inspiration. Amen.
