Week 1: Tuesday Evening Prayer

Psalmody

Psalm 20

Ant. The essential thing is that you practice patience interiorly and that your spirit be at rest in God. (1827 Letter to Fr. Suzanne)

May the LORD answer you in time of trial;
may the name of Jacob’s God protect you,
sending you help from the holy place,
and giving you support from Zion.

May God remember all your offerings,
receive your sacrifice with favour,
give you your heart’s desire,
and fulfil every one of your plans.

May we ring out our joy at your victory,
and raise banners in the name of our God.
May the LORD grant all your prayers.

Now I know the anointed one is saved by the LORD,
who answers from the holy heavens
with the right hand of victory and might.

Some put their trust in chariots or horses,
but we in the name of the LORD, our God.
They will collapse and fall,
but we shall rise up and hold firm.
Grant salvation to the king, O LORD,
give answer on the day we call.

Psalm 21 (2-8, 14)

Ant. Keep going forward, the Lord is guiding your footsteps.
(1847 letter to Fr. Leonard)

In your strength, O LORD, the king rejoices;
how greatly your salvation makes him glad!
You have granted his heart’s desire;
you have not withheld the prayer of his lips.
You came to meet him with blessings of prosperity;
you have set on his head a crown of pure gold.
He asked you for life and this you have given:
days that will last from age to age.

In your salvation how great is his glory;
you have bestowed upon him majesty and splendour;
you have granted him blessings forever,
made him rejoice with the joy of your face.

The king has placed his trust in the LORD,
through the love of the Most High is unshaken.

O LORD, arise in your strength;
we shall sing and praise your power.

Glory to the Father…

Ant. Keep going forward, the Lord is guiding your footsteps.

 Canticle (Rev 4:11; 5:9,10, 12)

Ant. The essential is that each one makes the most of the measure of talents the Lord has given. (1831 letter to Fr. Mille)

Worthy are you, O God, our God,
to receive glory and honour and power.

For you have created all things;
by your will they came to be and were made.

Worthy are you to take the scroll
and open its seals,

For you were slain, and by your blood,
you purchased for God
saints of every race and tongue,
of every people and nation.

You have made of them a kingdom,
and priests to serve our God,
and they shall reign on the earth.

Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
to receive power and riches,
wisdom and strength,
honour and glory and praise.

Glory to the Father…

Ant. The essential is that each one makes the most of the measure of talents the Lord has given.

Reading

See what love Abba God has lavished on us in letting us be called God’s children! Yet that is, in fact, what we are. The reason the world does not recognize us is that it never recognized God. My dear friends, now we are God’s children, but it has not been revealed what we are to become in the future. We know that when it comes to light we will be like God, for we will see God as God really is.

(1 John 3:1-2)

Responsory

We will let our lives be enriched by the poor and the marginalized as we work with them

-We will let our lives be enriched by the poor and the marginalized as we work with them

for they can make us hear in new ways the Gospel we proclaim

-the poor and the marginalized

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit

-We will let our lives be enriched by the poor and the marginalized as we work with them

Canticle of Mary

Ant. Whoever wishes to become one of us must have an ardent desire for his own perfection and be enflamed with love for our Lord Jesus Christ and his Church and a burning zeal for the salvation of souls. (Eugene de Mazenod)

My heart is radiant, overflowing with joy,
for you have loved my lowliness.
You have shown me great favour;
all people will call me blest.

Your mercy extends throughout the ages
toward those who revere your holy name.
You have revealed your strength,
scattering the proud of heart.

You dethrone the powerful
and lift up the lowly.
The famished are filled;
the rich sent empty away.

Your people Israel you have remembered,
true to your loving kindness,
just as you have promised long ago
to Sarah and Abraham.

Glory to the Father…

Ant. Whoever wishes to become one of us must have an ardent desire for his own perfection and be enflamed with love for our Lord Jesus Christ and his Church and a burning zeal for the salvation of souls.

Intercessions

That those who are burdened with problems and worries may know that strength that comes from trust in God. We pray.

You call each one of us to be holy, help us to reflect the divine imprint of your creativity in our lives.

For those who hold political and economic power, may they build a better future for all on the rock of justice. We pray.

Lord’s Prayer

Concluding Prayer

We thank you, God, for your gift of the Holy Spirit. Like the wind that blows across our land, we cannot control it. But like a ship on the sea, we can lift our sails and journey with it. By Your mercy, Lord, move us and help us to recognize your presence in ordinary events of our lives. We ask this through Jesus, our Lord. Amen.
