Week 1: Sunday Morning Prayer

Psalmody

Psalm 63 (2-9)

Ant. Let us not cease to put our confidence in God. (1826 letter to Fr. Tempier)

O God, you are my God; at dawn I seek you;
for you my soul is thirsting.
For you my flesh is pining,
like a dry, weary land without water.

I have come before you in the holy place,
to behold your strength and your glory.
Your faithful love is better than life;
my lips will speak your praise.

I will bless you all my life;
in your name I will lift up my hands.
My soul shall be filled as with a banquet;
with joyful lips, my mouth shall praise you.

When I remember you upon my bed,
I muse on you through the watches of the night.
For you have been my strength;
in the shadow of your wings I rejoice.
My soul clings fast to you;
your right hand upholds me.

Glory to the Father…

Ant. Let us not cease to put our confidence in God.

Canticle of the Three (2-9)

Ant. How can we not be overwhelmed with gratitude towards God. (1826 letter to Fr. Tempier).

All you works of God, praise our God.
Praise and exalt God above all forever.
All you angels, sing God’s praise,
you heavens and waters above.
Sun and moon, and stars of heaven,
sing praise with the heavenly hosts.

Every shower and dew, praise our God.
Give praise all you winds.
Praise our God, you fire and heat,
Cold and chill – dew and rain.
Frost and chill, praise our God.
Praise God, ice and snow.
Nights and days, sing hymns of praise,
light and darkness,
lightnings and clouds.

Let all the earth bless our God.
Praise and exalt God above all forever.
Let all that grows from the earth give praise
together with mountains and hills.
Give praise you springs,
you seas and rivers,
dolphins and all water creatures.
Let birds of the air,
beasts wild and tame,
together with all living peoples,
praise and exalt God above all forever.

O Israel praise our God.
Praise and exalt God above all forever.
Give praise, you priests,
servants of the Most High,
spirits and souls of the just.
Holy ones of humble heart,
sing your hymns of praise.
Hananiah, Azariah, Mishael, praise our God.
Praise and exalt God above all forever.

Let us bless our God, Holy Mystery,
Source of all Being, Word, and Spirit.
Let us praise and exalt God above all forever.
Blessed are you, O God, in the firmament of heaven.
Praiseworthy and glorious and exalted above all forever.

Ant. How can we not be overwhelmed with gratitude towards God.

Psalm 149

Ant. God will give you all that you need. Trust in God’s goodness and promises, pray unceasingly for the light of the Holy Spirit, and walk without fear. (1848 letter to Fr. Etienne Semeria).

Sing a new song to the LORD,
high praise in the assembly of the faithful.
Let Israel rejoice in its Maker;
let Zion’s children exult in their King.
Let them praise God’s name with dancing,
and make music with timbrel and lyre.

For the LORD takes delight in the people,
and adorns the poor with salvation.
Let the faithful rejoice in glory,
shout with joy on their couches.

Let the praise of God be in their mouths
and a two-edged sword in their hands,
To deal out vengeance to the nations
and punishment upon the peoples;
to bind their rulers in chains
and their nobles in fetters of iron;
to carry out the judgment decreed.
This is an honour for all God’s faithful.

Glory to the Father…

Ant. God will give you all that you need. Trust in God’s goodness and promises, pray unceasingly for the light of the Holy Spirit, and walk without fear.

Reading

As Oblates we will always be close to the people not only because we evangelize them, but that they in turn evangelize us. The diversity of cultures and experiences of people enhance our Congregation. We stay close to them as we celebrate, collaborate, respect and appreciate them and the gifts that they share with us in our mission and ministry.

(Acts of the 37th General Chapter)

Responsory

Whoever wishes to be one of us must have an ardent desire for his own perfection and be enflamed with love

-Whoever wishes to be one of us must have an ardent desire for his own perfection and be enflamed with love

for our Lord Jesus Christ and his Church and a burning zeal for the salvation of souls

-and be enflamed with love

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit

-Whoever wishes to be one of us must have an ardent desire for his own perfection and be enflamed with love

Canticle of Zachariah

Ant. A spirit of simplicity and joyfulness marks our communities. (Constitution 39)

O God, you have come and freed your people;
from David’s house you have sent a Saviour.
Through ages the prophets have told us
that we would be saved from hatred.

You have shown to us your great mercy
by the promise to Sarah and Abraham
that we should be freed from all fear
to serve you in justice and holiness.

And you, John, are called prophet of God,
for you will prepare the way
to lead people to salvation
through the awareness and knowledge of God.

Praise to you, God of Israel.
The bright dawn will break upon us.
You give light to those in darkness.
You guide us to ways of peace.

Glory to the Father…

Ant. A spirit of simplicity and joyfulness marks our communities.

Intercessions

We remember the sick and those who morn the loss of their loved ones, that they be strengthened and healed of their sorrow and pain.

We pray for those who make and enforce our laws, that they may be guided by the wisdom that comes from our loving and merciful God.

We pray for Christians everywhere, that the light of their good deeds may be an inspiration to many.

Lord’s Prayer

Concluding Prayer

Loving God, you have made us in your image and we long to see your face. Quiet our minds and enkindle our hearts that walking the way of your truth we may leave the imprint of your goodness throughout the world. Grant this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
