Week 1: Sunday Evening Prayer II

Psalmody

Psalm 110 (1-5, 7)

Ant. You are God’s chosen made in God’s image – more precious in the eyes of God than all the world’s riches. (Eugene de Mazenod)

The LORD’s revelation to my lord:
“Sit at my right hand,
until I make your foes your footstool.”

 The LORD will send from Zion
your sceptre of power:
rule in the midst of your foes.

With you is princely rule
on the day of your power.
In holy splendour, from the womb before the dawn,
I have begotten you.

The LORD has sworn an oath he will not change:
“You are a priest forever,
according to the order of Melchizedek.”

The Lord at your right hand
shatters rulers on the day of God’s wrath.
He shall drink from the stream by the wayside,
and therefore he shall lift up his head.

Glory to the Father…

Ant. You are God’s chosen made in God’s image – more precious in the eyes of God than all the world’s riches.

Psalm 114

Ant. The grace of God always accompanies, enlightens and fortifies.
(1853 letter to Fr. Baudrand)

Alleluia!
When Israel came forth from Egypt,
the house of Jacob from a foreign people,
Judah became God’s holy place,
Israel the Lord’s domain.

The sea beheld them and fled;
the Jordan turned back on its course.
The mountains leapt like rams,
and the hills like yearling sheep.

Why was it, sea, that you fled;
that you turned back, Jordan, on your course?
O mountains, that you leapt like rams;
O hills, like yearling sheep?

Tremble, O earth, before the Lord,
in the presence of the God of Jacob,
who turns the rock into a pool,
and flint into a spring of water.

Glory to the Father…

Ant. The grace of God always accompanies, enlightens and fortifies.

Canticle (Rev 19: 1-7)

Ant. Let us yield to circumstances but not to abandon the tradition of our ancestors. (1809 letter to Madame de Mazenod, his mother)

Salvation, glory and power belong to you,
your judgements are honest and true.

All of us, your servants, sing praise to you,
we worship you reverently, both great and small.

You, our almighty God, are Creator of heaven and earth.
Let us rejoice and exult, and give you glory.

The wedding feast of the Lamb has begun,
And the bride has made herself ready.

Glory to the Father…

Ant. Let us yield to circumstances but not to abandon the tradition of our ancestors.

Reading

The Call of Jesus Christ has gathered us together in the Church to share our faith, life, mission and culture. This relationship is deepened through our personal and community prayer and through the reflection on and evaluation of our way of living. This opens us to the invitation and gift of the Holy Spirit.

(Conversion 2010 General chapter)

We will let our lives be enriched by the poor and the marginalized as we work with them

-We will let our lives be enriched by the poor and the marginalized as we work with them

for they can make us hear in new ways the Gospel we proclaim

-the poor and the marginalized

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit

-We will let our lives be enriched by the poor and the marginalized as we work with them

Canticle of Mary

Ant. You raise up the lowly, O Loving God.

My heart is radiant, overflowing with joy,
for you have loved my lowliness.
You have shown me great favour;
all people will call me blest.

Your mercy extends throughout the ages
toward those who revere your holy name.
You have revealed your strength,
scattering the proud of heart.

You dethrone the powerful
and lift up the lowly.
The famished are filled;
the rich sent empty away.

Your people Israel you have remembered,
true to your loving kindness,
just as you have promised long ago
to Sarah and Abraham.

Glory to the Father…

Ant. You raise up the lowly, O Loving God.

Intercessions

That the church on earth may be a living example of the compassion shown by Jesus. We pray

That we may heal those alienated from the church by seeking their forgiveness for the past hurts inflicted upon them. We pray.

For all who have died recently, may they see what no eye has seen, no ear has heard and no human heart conceived; may they enjoy all the blessings that God has prepared for those who love him.

Lord’s Prayer

Concluding Prayer

Eternal Wisdom, you have written your law of love in our hearts. Remove from our lives all that blinds us to your life-giving truth. Help us to transcend the fear and selfishness that would direct us away from you. Make us willing to pay the price of love that will bless the world with the mercy and healing it knew in the life of Jesus. May all we do give praise to you now and forever. Amen
