Week 1: Monday Morning Prayer

Psalmody

Psalm 5 (2-10, 12-13)

Ant. I place my trust in you alone, Lord, hear my prayer. (1808, letter to his mother)

To my words give ear, O LORD;
give heed to my sighs.
Attend to the sound of my cry,
my Sovereign and my God.

To you do I pray, O LORD.
In the morning you hear my voice;
in the morning I plead and watch before you.

 You are no God who delights in evil;
no sinner is your guest.

The boastful shall not stand before your eyes.
All who do evil you despise;
all who lie you destroy.
Whoever speaks lies and sheds blood
the LORD detests.

Yet through the greatness of your faithful love,
I enter your house.
I bow down before your holy temple,
in awe of you.

Lead me, LORD, in your righteousness,
because of my foes;
make straight your way before me.

No truth can be found in their mouths,
their heart is all malice,
their throat a wide-open grave;
with their tongue they flatter.

All who take refuge in you shall be glad,
and ever cry out their joy.
You shelter them; in you they rejoice,
those who love your name.
It is you who bless the righteous, O LORD,
you surround them with your favour like a shield.

Glory to the Father…

Ant. I place my trust in you alone, Lord, hear my prayer.

Canticle (1 Chr 29:10-13)

Ant. All however is not lost and the good God, who knows our good desires and the purity of our intentions, will no doubt provide. (1825 letter to Fr. Tempier)

Blessed may you be,
O God of Israel,
from eternity to eternity.

Yours, O God, are grandeur and power,
majesty, splendour, and glory.

For all in heaven and on earth is yours;
yours, O God, is the sovereignty;
you are exalted as head over all.

Riches and honour are from you;
you have dominion over all.
In your hands are power and might;
it is yours to give grandeur and strength to all.

Therefore, our God, we give you thanks
and we praise the majesty of your name.

Glory to the Father…

Ant. All however is not lost and the good God, who knows our good desires and the purity of our intentions, will no doubt provide.

Psalm 29

Ant. Have no regrets, ask God for the strength. (1840 letter to Fr. Mille)

Ascribe to the LORD, you heavenly powers,
ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.
Ascribe to the LORD the glory of God’s name;
bow down before the LORD, majestic in holiness.

The voice of the LORD upon the waters,
the God of glory thunders;
the LORD on the immensity of waters;
the voice of the LORD full of power;
the voice of the LORD full of splendour.

The voice of the LORD shatters cedars,
the LORD shatters the cedars of Lebanon,
making Lebanon leap like a calf,
and Sirion like a young wild ox.

The voice of the LORD flashes flames of fire.
The voice of the LORD shakes the wilderness,
the LORD shakes the wilderness of Kadesh;
the voice of the LORD rends the oak tree
and strips the forest bare.

In God’s temple they all cry, “Glory!”
The LORD sits enthroned above the flood;
the LORD sits as king forever.
Give strength to your people, O LORD.
O LORD, bless your people with peace.

Glory to the Father…

Ant. Have no regrets, ask God for the strength.

Reading

We see the need for better coordination, so that lay people may participate in “the charism in a spirit of communion and reciprocity amongst themselves and with the Oblates.” We encourage Lay Associates to gather at the Unit level and ask that they be accompanied by an Oblate within that Unit.

(Acts of the 37th General Chapter)

Responsory

They will bear with one another in much patience and meekness

-They will bear with one another in much patience and meekness

Canticle of Zachariah

Ant. Each of us offers his friendship and places his God-given talents at the service of all. (Constitution 39)

 O God, you have come and freed your people;
from David’s house you have sent a Saviour.
Through ages the prophets have told us
that we would be saved from hatred.

You have shown to us your great mercy
by the promise to Sarah and Abraham
that we should be freed from all fear
to serve you in justice and holiness.

And you, John, are called prophet of God,
for you will prepare the way
to lead people to salvation
through the awareness and knowledge of God.

Praise to you, God of Israel.
The bright dawn will break upon us.
You give light to those in darkness.
You guide us to ways of peace.

Glory to the Father…

Ant. Each of us offers his friendship and places his God-given talents at the service of all.

Lord’s Prayer

Concluding Prayer

O God who fed the multitudes with but a few loaves and some fish, feed us now with the abundance of what you freely offer, that we might overflow with your goodness right where we live. All this we pray in the name of, and because of, Jesus our Christ. Amen.
